From School Library Journal
PreSchool-When a little girl finds a flowerpot filled with soil and a tiny green sprout, she announces to her comical pup, Fred, "I will grow this flower." She watches it every day, feeding it all her favorite foods-pizza, cheeseburger, spaghetti, chocolate chip cookies, and strawberry ice cream. The astonished pet watches as she even offers up one of his juicy bones. Finally, when nothing happens, she throws the plant outside in disgust: "Silly flower!" There, nourished by soft rain and warm sunshine, the tiny plant begins to grow and one day surprises Fran with a big, beautiful flower. The expressive, full-page illustrations rendered in creamy primary and pastel colors on textured paper depict the small girl's misguided efforts as well as her ultimate delight. Right on target for a young child.

A delightful book share!
By A Customer
I own this book and recently purchased it for my son's kindergarten classroom. I read it to the class because they were getting ready to plant flowers to be braught home on Mothers Day and it was the first day of spring! The children can relate to the things that Fran likes and tries to feed her flower! They all enjoyed the book and laughed many times. We talked about the illustrations when we turned the pages and they really liked the bright and beautiful colors used. It was FUN reading this book, it kept their interest and most of all it was great seeing the smiles on their faces!

Glow sunny mood while readind this book
By A Customer
Well, well, well. Surely the story is short for ages of 4 to 8. But it is an edifying one with wonderful episodes and illustration. As I can recall, this is the first book in which I find the illustrator changes a character¡¦s outfit throughout the book. Slowly flip the pages and you¡¦ll find the sun inside of you heart is shining when you see Fran and Fred go out of the back door and see the beautiful big flower.

A great storytime book
By jdkf
I have been looking to purchase this book since I started teaching preschool 5 years ago. It is a wonderfully, delightful, simple book that explains growing plants. Preschool age children love it because it is silly and they can interact with the book and help determine what is appropriate to feed a flower. Now I work at a library and made sure to purchase this book to donate to our library, specifically for storytimes in the spring.
