A great feast of the senses and great to add some life back into my own dream study!

As much of a mouthful as the subtitle is, it hits the mark and sets the tone for a regular looking book to knock your socks off! Wow! I love my books and do not consider it a sacrilege to write in them. In fact, it's quite the opposite in my world. The more my current reading material is dog-eared, highlighted and whole paragraphs circled, the more the world knows that this one moved me, shook me and beckoned me to embrace, absorb and truly study it. And this one has all that.

In a rare and fulfilling balance of right brain expansion on ideas and left brain science, Control Your Dreams delivers questions, answers and leads one to delve deeper into their own questions and answers than any book I've read in a long time. This collaborative piece of work should satiate any soul that crosses its path.

As stated above, parts of this book are now cataloged as critical points in my understanding of the dream. Some lines that shine most brightly for me are the following:

"Cognitive psychology can no longer make the assumption that being awake has a clearly defined, unequivocal meaning."

There are many prominent researchers in the field whose theories are summarized and speculated upon, creating a flowing and fully rewarding reading experience. The references and their Research Bibliography was worth the price of the book, on its own.

This book was a gift from a friend over 20 years ago and I am blessed that it survived in my possession all these years. I'm not sure I fully grasped its value back then, and what a great feast of the senses it is for me to return to it and add some life back into my own dream study!

Old favorites for a new generation

My mom adores this cookbook, and I have some fond memories of eating things that have come out of it. I am particularly partial to the Lebanese meatballs, and adapted the recipe only slightly to make gyros with it. They came out perfect. The book itself is well-written, the printing is good quality, and the recipes I've made are simply excellent. It is fairly easy to get used copies, and it is totally worth the nominal price you'd pay for it.

THE MOST ADVENTURSOME COOKBOOK YOU CAN OWN

OWNED THIS COOKBOOK BACK IN THE SEVENTIES AND RELIED ON IT TO NO END. THE BOOK WENT OUT OF PRINT AND I COULD NOT FIND IT FOR THE LONGEST. NOW I HAVE.

ONE OF MY FAVORITE RECIPES IN THIS BOOK IS CURRIED CHICKEN. I MADE IT THE FIRST TIME FOR DINNER GUESTS. IT WAS A SMASH HIT. I STILL USE THIS RECIPE ALL THESE 37 YEARS LATER.

ANOTHER HIT WITH OTHER DINNER GUESTS WAS A MEXICAN DISH WITH SPINACH AND CHEDDAR CHEESE. THIS RECIPE IS ALSO ANOTHER ONE OF MY FAVORITES.

THIS COOK BOOK WILL TAKE YOU ON AN AROUND-THE-WORLD TASTE TOUR OF EXOTIC FOODS. BUY IT. YOU WILL NEVER BE SORRY YOU DID.

Great cookbook, good buy

This has been one of my all time favorite cookbooks for many years....to the point where my old copy is literally held together with duct tape. I thought that for the price, I was ordering a cheap paper copy of my old book. When it came (promptly) it was a bigger, better hardback. Amazing. I am delighted!

A modern odyssey

I really enjoyed this book after stumbling on it among the new editions. The author seems to have used the contrasting themes (different religions, geography, world views, political complications) well to get his point across. I remember finishing my reading on a single, long night. The suspense mentioned in the preview also kept me going. Having visited Istanbul and Konya one time, I can tell you that his descriptions of these specific cities are pretty accurate. I also found myself visualizing some of the concepts he describes (such as being deprived of all senses for an extended period or the restlessness the young man constantly feels). There were some short cuts to obvious problems (no language problems for once), but overall the book provides a wealth of information for the reader about the old world, its cultures, its religious and philosophical concepts. This is one of those books that makes you question the decisions you made in life.

Beautifully written love story

This is a love story - but not the kind you might think - as it is on many levels. First it is a love story of one seeking God. The young man is on a quest be find an unnamed quality that he longs for. The description of scenes and characters are very realistic and lovely. It is also a love story of travel, amazement, and being in love with music, art, and life. It is a love story of finding and learning to love oneself. And finally is becomes a love story about finding that one true love that everyone longs for.

Beautifully written with lovely phrases worthy of Rumi himself.

Originally self-published as The Sport of Learning in 1995, this book focuses on African American male student athletes, especially those recruited to play football and basketball. In this significantly revised and updated version, the authors present a sequence of events from high school through the college years, offering practical advice on which college to choose, how to balance academics and athletics, how to handle relationships, and how to cope with the media. The self-contained chapters, consisting of worksheets, self-tests, and sample scenarios, enable the reader to concentrate on one topic of interest at a time. While many of the topics discussed are addressed from the perspective of the college student athlete, male high school students can apply some of these principles and lessons as well. Fudzie earned a bachelor's degree in business administration while on a football scholarship, and Hayes works as a high school teacher and counselor for the Los Angeles school district. A must read for all students and parents

Through the media, we frequently hear about problems associated with athletes, such as drug abuse, illiteracy and low graduation rates. This book is written for the young athlete to help him or her avoid such pitfalls. It addresses issues such as steroid abuse, alcohol abuse and date rape. It also discusses NCAA requirements and athletic scholarships. In addition, it offers great tips on networking, budgeting, studying for exams effectively and maintaining self-discipline. With all of the pressures that young people face today, it is great to read a book whose purpose is to steer young people in a positive direction. I highly recommend it.

Martin Luther King's sermon on peace is here; so is Langston Hughes' "Christmas Song." P. K. The authors (who celebrate BOTH Christmas and Kwanzaa) write in the Introduction to this 1996 book, "It is possible for us all to restore the meaning of these sacred holidays to our lives. We hope that the words and images in 'Merry Christmas, Baby' become your family's guide to recapturing the historical sweep and range of feelings that make up the African American experience of Christmas and Kwanzaa... Our own Christmas/Kwanzaa celebrations have been inclusive affairs. The highlight of one season was our Imani brunch, to which in addition to the pot-luck dishes our friends contributed, they brought their personal stories of triumph over adversity, their poems, prayers, and affirmations for faith, hope, and forgiveness. Their love that day blended with the symbols of the season---the Christmas tree decorated with black angels and golden ribbon, a kinara fashioned from our collection of new and heirloom candle-holders, some of the recipes from chefs in this book---in one of the most beautiful holiday celebrations we've ever had."

Impressive scholarship by Univision's anchor

Univision national anchor Jorge Ramos has written an impressive piece of scholarship with "The Latino Wave," his timely look at how the current wave of immigration from Latin America is changing the face of politics in America.

I give Ramos major credit for his industriousness: he obviously conceived and pieced together the book while reporting on the 2004 presidential election for Univision. In doing so, he really proves that he's no mere talking head. To the contrary, there are some real heady, well-thought out policy ideas in 'Wave.' For example, Ramos concludes his book by laying out 10 recommendations for politicians to "understand the Hispanic experience and improve the lives of Latinos." One of those points is "Make Latin America a Prominent Part of US Foreign Policy." At this point in the book, Ramos has detailed quite effectively the short shrift that Latin American politics are given by our leaders, the price to be paid (and will be paid) for that neglect, and how this oversight infuriates Latinos in this country.

Ramos also has his finger right on the pulse of the hidden secret of immigrant labor: while many politicians publicly denounce its impact, the truth is that immigrant labor pays taxes and FICA and thereby is a critical cog in shoring up our Baby Boomers' expectations of Social Security benefits. As one expert is quoted as saying, because of the size of the Baby Boomer generation compared to our 'indigenous' workforce, the US economy is more dependent on immigrant labor now than at any point in the last 100 years.

Jorge Ramos' insightful work is definitely worth your time.
